Córdoba plays a powerful role in the world of Photography, having its highpoint during International Photography Biennial of Córdoba. This XVIth edition the Biennial will focus on war images. Between the 23rd of March and the 21st of May a wide range of activities will be taking place in Córdoba: workshops, documentaries of warlike conflicts, book presentations, conferences, round tables.

They will have at their disposal: the Vimcorsa Hall, the Góngora Hall, the Hall of San Felipe Neri, the Main Comedy Theater, the Arab House, the Antonio Gala Foundation, The Film Archive, the Mateo Inurria School of Arts, the Cajasur Hall, the Salazar Galleries, the Gran Capitán Building (propierty of the City Council) and the Góngora House. For two months renown photographers such as Manu Bravo, Emilio Moneratti or Samuel Aranda will happily inhabit Córdoba.

Among the most interesting exhibits we can see “La maleta Mexicana” (“The Mexican suitcase”) in the Vimcorsa Hall. The exhibit presents us with rediscovered negatives from the Spanish Civil War taken by Robert Capa, Gerda Taro and David Seymour “Chim”.

The Mexican suitcase grants us, for the first time, the opportunity to experience the recently unveiled images from this famous collection. In December of 2007, three boxes containing over 4,500 35 mm negatives taken by Robert Capa, Gerda Taro and “Chim” during the Spanish Civil War –thought lost since 1939– arrived to the International Center of Photography. These three photographers, who at that time lived in Paris, worked in Spain throughout the conflict. Their work paved the ground of todays war modern photography. The pictures they took remain the most passionate and innovative approaches to the War in Spain yet.

Within the official Biennial site we can find a thorough agenda for all its activities and further information: http://bienaldefotografia. cordoba.es/
